Will Ferrell Reprises Bush Impersonation at White House Correspondents’ Dinner!

Remember when George W. Bush was president, and everyone was all “man, he’s the worst, how’d he even get this gig?”, and we all thought that we’d never see such a ridiculous leader again in our lifetimes?

Well, that was then, and this is now.

And now, Donald Trump is the president. Life works in mysterious, horrific ways sometimes.

But instead of dwelling on the horrors of Trump, let’s think about the positives: his presidency has inspired some amazing comedy so far.

And at last night’s annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, hosted by Samantha Bee, the comedy was really just top notch.

Trump himself couldn’t be bothered to attend, though the last president to miss the event was Ronald Reagan back in 1981 (to be fair though, it was just after that assassination attempt).

But somehow, everyone still managed to have a good time.

The best time, perhaps, was when the audience was asked to stand for “the 43rd president of the United States, George W. Bush” … and instead of W. himself, Will Ferrell walked out.

Will Ferrell as George W. Bush

He took his time moseying up to the stage, and when he got there, he simply said “How do you like me now, huh?”

And what happened next was just a solid four minutes of magic.

As Bush, Ferrell complained about the press, saying “You guys would always sneak up on me with ‘gotcha’ questions, like ‘Why are we going to war? Gotcha!'”

“‘Why did you not respond to Hurricane Katrina? Gotcha!’ ‘What is your middle name? Gotcha!'”

“I wish someone would have told me that all you have to do is say ‘fake news’ over and over again,” he said, to the delight of us all.

Ferrell’s Bush even showed off a portrait he’d been working on of Trump, though he said it wasn’t finished because he’d run out of orange and yellow paint.
