The Trump administration has already made it blatantly clear they’re operating under a fascist regime. This means, of course, that they won’t stand for the courts to challenge their proposed policies, including Trump’s recently issued executive order barring individuals from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.
Senior Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway proved that Sunday morning when she sat down with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday.
According to Conway, the recent block issued by the federal court for the Eastern District of New York “doesn’t really affect” Trump’s executive orders banning immigrants from Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.
Conway told Fox News Sunday:
‘The judge in Brooklyn, the Obama appointee judge in Brooklyn’s stay of order really doesn’t affect the executive order at all, because the executive order is meant to be prospective.’
The problem with Conway’s comments, however, is the fact that she actively attempts to delegitimize the Federal Judiciary by undermining the American people’s faith in the judicial system.
Essentially, this time Trump is using Conway to do his dirty work for him. This is nothing new, however.
For months Donald Trump has tried to discredit various groups. He’s slammed the media for being “dishonest,” “biased,” and most recently, vehemently attacked legitimate news outlets such as CNN for being “fake news.” We’ve witnessed him attempt to discredit the intelligence community by denying Russian interference in the 2016 election.
The last option the American public has against an overarching fascist regime that Trump has seemingly turned the United States into overnight, are the federal courts.
In case you’ve forgotten:
‘Since its origins in 1789, the nation’s court system has embodied the federal character of the government established by the U.S. Constitution. The Supreme Court guaranteed the authority of the Constitution and federal law throughout the nation, while a system of federal trial courts, organized within state borders, reflected the legal traditions of each judicial district and facilitated citizen access to federal justice. The decentralized federal judiciary ensured that individual federal courts had a strong local orientation, while at the same time it united a geographically dispersed nation within a consistent system of federal law.’
As the Economist notes, “the principle of judicial independence means that presidents and presidential candidates respect the rule of law and the judgments of judges.”
The very principles upon which this country were founded are currently being undermined by Trump and his administration as they quickly transform the United States into a totalitarian regime.
Of course, this is anything but breaking news. If this is shocking to you, you haven’t been paying very close attention. It’s been directly under our nose since he attacked Gonzalo Curiel, the judge responsible for overseeing the lawsuit against the fraudulent scam otherwise known as Trump University.
Based on Conway’s comments today, The Trump administration is completely aware of what they are doing. It seems they will stop at nothing, be it undermining the media, the intelligence community, and even the Federal Judiciary.
If one thing’s for sure, we must #Resist.
