On Monday, the Senate’s version of Trumpcare died when Republican Sens. Jerry Moran and Mike Lee simultaneously announced that they would not vote yes on a “motion to proceed” with the measure.

On Tuesday morning, like any good cult leader, Trump took to Twitter to completely deflect blame for the measure off the “faithful” Republican Senators and pin it on “obstructionist” Democrats in the Senate.

Trump wrote:

‘With only a very small majority, the Republicans in the House & Senate need more victories next year since Dems totally obstruct, no votes!’

With only a very small majority, the Republicans in the House & Senate need more victories next year since Dems totally obstruct, no votes!

This tweet itself helps reveal what has turned Democrats into the “obstructionists” that the Trump camp alleges they are. Republicans simply aren’t interested in reaching “across the aisle” and working with Democrats on any key pieces of legislation, let alone the healthcare bill. Trump’s solution to zero Democrats supporting the healthcare bill isn’t to make something more palatable to those American political interests that these Senators represent. Rather, Trump’s solution is simply to kick the Democrats out of Congress.

This mindset fits into the wider mindset in which the Trump Administration approaches basically all opposition. As Trump himself said, in Trump World, all negative news is “fake news.” You would be extremely hard pressed to find an instance where the Trump camp allows for opposition to be legitimate.

This situation is why Congressional Republicans have continued to press on with their Obamacare repeal and replacement efforts even though only 16-17 percent of Americans support Trumpcare and a whopping 46 percent of Americans support the Affordable Care Act as is.

Even still, Congressional Republicans have decided to shift their efforts into a flat out ACA repeal effort in the face of their inability to agree on an ACA replacement. It’s not only opposition Congressional Democrats that the president delegitimizes with his tweets blaming them for Trumpcare’s failure and calling for their removal from Congress; it’s every American who is concerned with protecting the healthcare of the less fortunate.

Trump eventually added another call for Democrats’ power in the Senate to be abolished, writing on Twitter that Senate rules should be changed so as to let things from across the board pass with 51 votes instead of some things requiring 60 votes.

Trump wrote:

‘The Senate must go to a 51 vote majority instead of current 60 votes. Even parts of full Repeal need 60. 8 Dems control Senate. Crazy!’

The Senate must go to a 51 vote majority instead of current 60 votes. Even parts of full Repeal need 60. 8 Dems control Senate. Crazy!

Again here, Trump conveniently ignores the fact that his own party can’t agree on legislation that is palatable to Republicans across the board. 8 Dems don’t “control” the Senate; Republicans do.

Check out Twitter’s thoughts about all of this below.

WRONG!! The GOP Controls the Senate and the House!

Obama passed the ACA with 60 Votes. What’s the problem?

You can’t just blame the Democrats. Republicans opposed your healthcare bill

Listen to Democrats. Listen to Republicans. Listen to Americans. Abandon your healthcare plan

@EdwardTHardy

Stop whining. Stop complaining. Listen to politicians. Listen to the public. Come up with a healthcare plan that Americans support

Are you forgetting about the Republicans who don’t support you? Can’t blame the dems for everything.

By my math, things would work a lot better if the president were more competent.

Your bill only needed 51 votes. Your party has 52 senators. You couldn’t win over your own party. This is nothing to do with the filibuster.

What about those great deal-making skills, by the way? Weren’t you supposed to be able to convince everyone to come together on this?

The reality is, you probably didn’t even know what was in the bill. That’s why you weren’t able to effectively advocate for it.

but wait aren’t you supposed to be the best deal-maker ever? and you can’t cut a deal with majority control of both chambers?!?! SAD!!

The Senate must go to a 51 vote majority instead of current 60 votes. Even parts of full Repeal need 60. 8 Dems control Senate. Crazy!

Changing the rules mid-game isn’t winning, it’s cheating.
