Top Trump adviser Steve Bannon is no fan of the press.
Before going on, just think about that for a minute
The press makes it its business to find the best ways to disseminate accurate information. If a news organization were to spread false information, then that news organization would quickly falter. That’s not the way that the business works. You don’t get ahead by telling lies.
The press, in short, is the industry of selling truth. The operative word here is truth. It’s the press’s business model to find the most ways possible to explore, expound upon, and spread around truth.
And Bannon is opposed to all of that.
He appeared Thursday in a joint forum at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) with Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff and former RNC head Reince Priebus. Inevitably and unsurprisingly, the topic of the press came up. Trump has made it one of the key points of his agenda to fight the press as an enemy of the American people — and that’s a quote. Rather then focus on Democrats, or foreign governments as a rule, Trump has made it known that the press is among his chief enemies.
Bannon, while speaking next to Priebus at CPAC, took that idea and really, really ran with it.
He said, “It’s not only not going to get better, it’s going to get worse every day for the media.”
He went on to explain what led him to make such an assertion, saying:
‘And here’s why, by the way, the internal logic makes sense — they’re corporatist, globalist, media, that are adamantly opposed, they’re adamantly opposed to an economic nationalist agenda like Donald Trump has. President Trump laid this out many years ago.’
So what Bannon is suggesting here is that the media is sticking up for corporatism over the interests of the American people.
Seeing as the vast majority of the opposition to Trump found in the media and elsewhere is focused on his treatment of minorities, and not corporations, that’s demonstrably false.
He went on, finishing with what amounts to a battle cry:
‘Here’s why it’s going to get worse — because he’s going to continue to press his agenda. As economic conditions get better, as more jobs get better, they’re going to continue to fight. If you think, if you think they’re going to give you your country back without a fight you’re sadly mistaken. Every day it’s going to be a fight.’
