Everyone give three cheers for Saturday Night Live.
The late night comedy television program has risen to prominence lately as Americans not in step with the Trump admin have become desperate for anything to take their minds off the horrors of our new fascist presidential administration.
Saturday Night Live has risen to fill the need.
At present, the show has standing impersonations of Trump, Putin, and White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. The impersonations have sparked the ire of the president on a number of occasions, including most recently over the fact that his male press secretary was portrayed by a woman, Melissa McCarthy.
(McCarthy’s impersonation of Spicer was really, really epic, and if you haven’t seen it yet, then you really should watch it. You can find it here.)
Trump has also expressed his distaste for the show on a number of other occasions, taking issue with actor Alec Baldwin’s portrayal of him. Trump has called the show “boring” and “unfunny,” and asserted that it’s “time to retire” the program.
Of course, it must not be that boring, because it apparently occupies Trump most every week that it spoofs him, since the ever public image obsessed president always seems ready to have a dig on Baldwin ready to go on Sunday morning.
Well, anyway, there are still officials in the Trump administration who haven’t had intricate spoofs made of them yet. One of those is Trump’s top adviser, Steve Bannon, who has gone from heading the alt-right “news” source Breitbart to having a seat on the National Security Council.
A figure supposed to stand in for Bannon has appeared on SNL, but it was just a shock value driven black hooded skeleton figure. The character, which appeared alongside Baldwin/ Trump last week, didn’t get into the business of actually being a realistic impression of Bannon.
Well, Rosie O’Donnell is interested in changing all that. The comedienne, who has been targeted by Trump numerous times in the past, replied to a fan on Twitter the other day asking about her maybe playing Bannon by writing, “i am here to serve – alec has trump – melissa has spice – i would need a few days to prepare – so if called – i will be ready.”
Trump, @Rosie, was upset that a staffer was played by a woman, and you do a great impression of him. Willing to take one for the team?
And now, check out what she’s just made her Twitter profile picture below. It’s her face photoshopped onto Steve Bannon’s body.
So now, as Twitter user Howie Klein put it, the whole world is holding its collective breath to see if Rosie will spoof Bannon on SNL.
