Melania is Dining on Diamonds and Trump is Cutting Funding for ‘Meals on Wheels’ Really!?!

A popular program that delivers food to senior citizens who are unable to purchase or prepare their own meals may be axed under President Donald Trump’s new budget — and some people on Twitter are fuming.

According to Trump’s budget director Mick Mulvaney, Meals on Wheels — which provided meals to 2.4 million seniors and 500,000 veterans last year — just isn’t worth the money.

Cuts to Meals on Wheels and other domestic programs would offset a $54 billion proposed increase in military spending, as The Huffington Post reported.

“We can’t spend money on programs just because they sound good and great,” Mulvaney said Thursday. “We can’t do that anymore. We can’t spend money on programs just because they sound good. And Meals on Wheels sounds great.”

Mulvaney’s right — Meals on Wheels does sound great to a lot of people. And many of them have pointed out the irony of a billionaire taking away seniors’ meals:

A lot people think the Trumps are pulling a Marie Antoinette.

Budget fact: Trump’s golf trips during the first two months of his presidency would have funded Meals on Wheels for the next four years.

Maybe @MELANIATRUMP can share her diamond pasta with the 2.4 million seniors losing Meals on Wheels. pic.twitter.com/QseA8GSvim

These pictures might come back to haunt Melania.

The new fiscal year begins October 1, so there’s still plenty of time to debate the proposed budget.
