Melania Trump is reportedly having a difficult time adjusting to her role as first lady, with one anonymous source going so far as to claim she is “miserable.”
“This life wasn’t her dream. It was Donald’s,” said a source by the name of Phillip Bloch, according to Us Weekly. “Truthfully, it’s a lot to cope with.”
The first lady has reportedly become more reclusive as time has gone on, confining herself to her family’s opulent penthouse in New York’s Trump Tower, according to the Independent.
The first lady has reportedly resorted to having the Secret Service escort her 10-year-old son, Barron, to and from school.
Since President Donald Trump’s election, Trump Tower in New York has been a consistent target for picketers and protestors, making the premises more difficult to access.
Reports indicate that Melania Trump refuses to give up her privacy due to her position as first lady.
She has continued to stay out of the public eye amid continued requests for her to fulfill the traditional public relations duties of a first lady.
White House staff reportedly requested that the first lady come to Washington to support her husband in his new role as president and to host tours of the White House, according to the New York Post.
“She was told, ‘All you need to do is show up on one day and take photos,’” explained a family source.
The first lady was nevertheless reluctant to do so, even refusing to accompany the wife of Japanese Prime Minister, Akie Abe, on a tour of the Capitol typically hosted by the first lady.
“Each first lady takes on the role and makes it their own,” said former White House Social Secretary Ann Stock. “That evolves over time.”
