But let’s backtrack for a second.

Why would the President of the United States want to call a lawyer pretending to be a casino investor?

Well, back in 2009, you see, a Trump casino went bankrupt and set investors up to lose over a billion dollars. But then, the attorney representing the investors who had planned to take legal action against Trump, got a threatening and mysterious phone call late one evening.

The caller, who had a “thick New York accent” and referred to himself as Carmine, called attorney Kristopher Hansen and said:

‘My name is Carmine. I don’t know why you’re f*cking with Mr. Trump but if you keep f*cking with Mr. Trump, we know where you live and we’re going to your house for your wife and kids.’

But get this. This is where things get really strange.

Hansen called the police and informed them about the call, which of course, led to an investigation. The investigation revealed that the call originated from a payphone across the street from the same location where President Trump was located.

Trump was at the Ed Sullivan Theater for an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, and, according to BuzzFeed, the call occurred around the time that Trump was set to arrive at the theater.

BuzzFeed reports that Hansen was so terrified of the call, that he had the police send squad cars to watch outside his house for three days following the incident.

Hansen also contacted the state’s FBI offices, who called the threatening phone call “overt” extortion and told Hansen to record “further threatening telephone calls” with a “portable recording device.”

A summary of the incident as documented by the police report is as follows: “Caller stated he is a bankruptcy lawyer representing creditors for Donald Trump. He advised he received a threatening phone call this afternoon while at work in New York City where the caller stated, “my name is Carmine I don’t know why you’re fucking with Mr. Trump but if you keep fucking with Mr. Trump, we know where you live and were going to your house for your wife and kids.” Phone number was received from [redacted]. Caller thinks it was Donald Trumps body guard. Wife and children should be home at this time. Wife’s name is [redacted]. Caller spoke with SGT37 and advised him he will be filing a report with NYPD, but requested additional patrols in the area of his residence. Caller advised he has not notified his wife as of yet but will be doing so soon. SGT37 advised caller we will be checking residence periodically and to call with any new developments.”

Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen spoke to BuzzFeed regarding the incident and said:

‘I am not personally aware of any individual who provided security to Mr. Trump with that name. I am also not aware of any inquiry made by the FBI, or any agency, regarding this matter. Factually, this scenario makes no sense at all. I would describe this as complete and utter nonsense.’

According to former NYPD detective and media personality Bo Dietl, who’s been friends with Trump since 1985, Trump is well known for threatening those who cross him. He told The Daily Beast:

‘I’m known for being pretty tough, so I just didn’t take any shit from him, back and forth. And the thing is, he knew where I stand. Over the years we’ve had some disagreements where I’ve cursed at him on the phone to f*ck off, and back and forth, and if I caught him in a fib I’d tell him, ‘Donald, that’s not true, so stop f*cking lying.’ But with all that said, when it comes down to it, I was at his wedding, his son’s wedding. I became—I was one of the beginning members of Mar-a-Lago!’

He continued, adding:

‘We kind of deterred that attorney because what we did was we investigated the fact that [the] attorney wasn’t exactly cleaner than the Board of Health, you know what I mean? So I went to visit the guy who was trying to f*ck Trump, and I says, you know, I think you better think about this. He’s got this, this and the other thing—it was enough to be very bad for that person.’

45 is also known to have a history of calling people using fake aliases, according to Fortune.
