The media is buzzing today following the news that Trump’s National Security Advisor Michael Flynn resigned from his post less than one month after the Trump administration took office.
What’s ironic however, is that months ago Flynn publicly berated former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for doing the very thing he did: putting our nation’s national security at risk.
Back in June at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Flynn joined deplorables attending the convention in a “lock her up” chant.
“We do not need a reckless president who believes she is above the law,” Flynn declared to the crowd. “Yeah. Lock her up, that’s right. Yes, right, lock her up!”
Calling on Clinton to drop out of the race, Flynn told the crowd at the RNC:
‘I’m gonna tell you what — it’s unbelievable. Unbelievable. Yeah. I use, I use hashtag never Hillary. That’s what I use. I have called on Hillary Clinton to drop out of the race because she put our nation’s security at extremely high risk with their careless use of a private email server.’
“Lock her up! Lock her up!” he chanted from the stage, demanding Clinton’s persecution by authorities.
News broke late Monday evening that the former Army lieutenant general resigned from his position as National Security Adviser after acting attorney general Sally Q. Yates reportedly told the White House Flynn “had put himself in a compromising position” by speaking with the Russian ambassador to the United States, Sergey Kislyak, before he was permitted to do so.
It’s illegal for a private citizen to discuss U.S. diplomacy, which Flynn is accused of doing before assuming his position on as National Security Adviser to President Donald Trump.
According to reports from The Washington Post, U.S. officials claim Flynn was “potentially vulnerable to Russian blackmail.”
When asked about his calls and texts with the Russian official, Flynn told then-Vice President-elect Mike Pence that he hadn’t discussed Russian sanctions with the official, however it’s since been discovered that Vice President Pence was likely led astray by Flynn.
