Rocky Uzzell, 29, and Katherine Prigmore, 24, have been jailed after the couple filmed a “horrific” beating of their newborn baby, Isabelle, before abandoning the child to go out to eat. Apparently, the “catastrophic” injuries inflicted upon the five-week-old baby were so serious, she remained in intensive care for over two weeks and it’s been said she may not live beyond early adulthood. The courts also heard the baby may never regain sight, will have to be fed through a tube and will most likely be bed-ridden or wheelchair-bound for the rest of her life as a result of her severe injuries.

Now Uzzell and Prigmore have both been charged with causing or allowing a child to suffer serious harm.

During their sentencing at Northampton Crown Court, the investigating officer told the courts this particular case was “probably the worst crime” he had seen in his career. The courts heard that paramedics arrived at the defendants’ home on March 10, 2014, after Prigmore had called 911 to report her baby’s limbs had “gone limp” and the newborn was also “vomiting.” Paramedics then resuscitated the infant before rushing the critically injured baby to Kettering General Hospital.

According to court reports, the medics determined the baby had swelling in her brain and injuries consistent with squeezing. It was also discovered the child had multiple fractures on her ribs and a broken arm. If that’s not bad enough, both paramedics and hospital staff told the courts the parents “acted strangely” during the traumatic incident. Rather than expressing concern for the well-being of their injured baby, the couple seemed preoccupied with the fact that it was Uzzell’s birthday. In fact, hospital staff allegedly overheard the couple saying that since their daughter was in the hospital, it would give them a chance to go eat at the fast food restaurant, Nando’s.

Yeah, talk about some seriously messed up people.

During sentencing, Uzzell pleaded guilty to causing harm to the child and also admitted to possession of indecent images of children. A mobile phone recording that showed Uzzell being violent towards the baby was also presented in court. Judge Rupert Mayo sentenced Uzzell to six years behind bars and said the man’s actions were “deliberate and inexcusable.”

Mayo also told the abusive father, Isabelle has limited life expectancy and will lead a life dependent on the care of others. She was injured on more than one occasion by you. Prigmore, on the other hand, was sentenced to 28 months in jail. At the time of sentencing, the judge said, Your priority should have been Isabelle. It was not, it was you and your needs.

Following the court’s decision, DC Spencer Bailey stated, At the center of it is a baby girl who, through the actions of these two defendants, suffered catastrophic injuries that will require a level of medical support for the rest of her life. Uzzell and Prigmore inflicted horrific injuries on this vulnerable baby girl who was just a few weeks old at the time. In my experience in the child protection team, it’s probably the worst crime I’ve dealt with. The injures and the suffering this girl will have to endure for the rest of her life is beyond recognition. A little jail time seems like a pretty light punishment compared to the suffering their daughter will have to endure for the rest of her life.
